How Creator Earnings Work

Creator sign-up is opening soon. This article describes the designed creator experience — what earning on PrepSmart will look like when the creator app opens. It is not a currently-live product.

The idea is simple: your fans pay you — not some other app. Today your fans pay a middleman app every month just to save your recipes, and you never see a cent. On PrepSmart that money comes straight to you, and you keep the majority of every subscription.

This article walks through what generates revenue, how your price and cadence move your number, and how subscriber stacking lets fans support every creator they love.

What You Earn

You set your own monthly subscription price. Most creators land between $2.99 and $9.99 per month, and the suggested default is $6.99/mo — for less than the cost of a latte a month, a fan gets every recipe you'll ever post.

You keep the majority of every subscription. To keep examples concrete, the figures below assume the suggested $6.99/mo price, where a creator keeps roughly $4.89 per subscriber each month. These are illustrative — your actual earnings depend on the price you choose and how many fans subscribe.

A note on the numbers. Every figure in this article is an illustrative example, not a guarantee or a statement of actual earnings. Your real numbers depend on your audience, your price, and how you promote your page.

What Generates Revenue

Revenue comes from direct subscriptions to your creator page. Here's what counts and what doesn't.

What generates revenue

  • Monthly subscriptions to your creator page
  • Annual subscriptions (if you offer them)
  • Subscriber stacking (explained below)

What doesn't

  • Merchandise sales (not on PrepSmart)
  • Affiliate links (you own those separately)
  • Ad revenue or sponsorships (yours to negotiate)
  • Consultation or coaching (separate from PrepSmart)

PrepSmart is 100% ad-free and purely subscription-based. No ads, no platforms taking cuts of your other revenue streams. Your earnings come from people paying to follow your recipes and meal plans.

A few earnings notes worth knowing up front:

  • Three free recipes from every creator. Anyone who follows you gets your first 3 recipes free; a subscription unlocks your full catalog. The free recipes are how new fans discover you and decide to subscribe.
  • No minimum payout. You get paid even in a month where you earn a little — there's no $100-plus threshold to clear before money reaches you.

What Moves Your Number

The forecast you'll see during sign-up is an early estimate that updates with your real data — a floor, not a ceiling, and never a promise. Your real numbers replace it within your first 30–60 days. Two levers move your number most, and both are things you already do:

1. How often you post and link

The most reliable lever is simple: keep posting the content your audience already loves, and add your PrepSmart link. More public posts that link back convert better — a pattern proven on platforms like Patreon and Skool. Your 90-day launch plan hands you a post-and-link cadence written in your voice.

2. How prominently you promote your link

Where your link lives matters — in your bio, in your posts, in your email signature. Your largest single audience (or your email list, if it's bigger) is the honest base for your forecast; email almost always converts higher than social.

You're not pulling these levers alone. Your Strategist's team sends you monthly content ideas in your brand voice, and PrepSmart runs its own paid campaigns to bring new cooks to discover you.

Subscriber Stacking: Why Creators Win Together

Here's what makes PrepSmart different from platforms that force creators to compete for one slot in a fan's budget.

Fans can subscribe to as many creators as they love. Each subscription supports that creator directly.

Example (illustrative)

Imagine you and three other PrepSmart creators — a dietitian, a cookbook author, and an appliance brand — all make content a particular fan loves. On most platforms, they'd have to pick one. Not here.

That fan can subscribe to all four. Each of you earns from your own subscriber — your success doesn't come out of anyone else's pocket, and theirs doesn't come out of yours. This is the opposite of zero-sum competition: fans support every creator they love, and every creator gets paid for their own work.

What this means for you

Your earnings track your subscribers — full stop. If a fan also subscribes to three other creators, that doesn't add to or subtract from what you earn; you earn from the fans who subscribe to you, and the other creators earn from theirs. Everyone is building their own page, and the fan gets to support all of them.

When and How You Get Paid

The payout experience below is part of the designed creator app and will be available when creator sign-up opens.

Connecting payouts

When you go live, you'll connect your payout method so you're ready for your first $100. You choose how you want to be paid — options are designed to include direct deposit (ACH in the US), PayPal, and methods suited to international creators.

The monthly cycle

Earnings are calculated and reported monthly, then paid out shortly after. Each cycle you'll see a summary of your subscribers (new, active, and churned), the revenue you generated, and confirmation of your payout — so the path from "a fan subscribed" to "money in your account" is always clear.

Milestones, not big aggregate promises

Your forecast is framed around milestones you can actually reach next, not a giant headline number:

  • Your first 10 Founding Subscribers
  • Your first $100 payout
  • Your day-90 goal

Hitting the first milestone is the whole point of the 90-day launch plan. The bigger numbers follow from there — but they're a floor that grows with your real data, never a guarantee.

How to Grow Your Earnings

Your revenue tracks your subscriber count, so growth comes down to bringing in fans and keeping them:

Promote your page

  • Share on the social platforms you already use
  • Add your PrepSmart link to your bio and email signature
  • Feature your page in videos, podcasts, and posts
  • Cross-promote with complementary creators

Keep your content worth subscribing to

  • Recipes people genuinely want to cook
  • Meal plans that solve a real weekly problem
  • Consistent, fresh value — seasonal updates, new collections

Build for retention

  • Respond to your community and feature their cooking
  • Watch which content keeps fans subscribed
  • Use your monthly reports to find your best performers and do more of that

Where Your Subscription Price Goes

Your fans pay a single monthly price, and you keep the majority of it. The remainder funds the things that make a one-person creator operation feel like a team:

  • Payment processing — card fees, fraud prevention, payouts
  • The platform itself — servers, infrastructure, integrations
  • Your team of experts — real specialists (with AI-assisted tools to speed the work) who build and maintain your profile, recipes, and brand voice
  • Your Strategist — a real person in your corner, one message, no tickets, no transfers
  • A marketing engine — paid campaigns that bring new cooks to your page, plus the content ideas and 90-day plan that help you grow
  • Trust and safety — content moderation, subscriber support, dispute resolution

Other platforms leave you to figure out growth entirely on your own. On PrepSmart, what you pay back includes a team that actively helps drive subscribers to your page — not just somewhere to host your recipes.

Taxes

You're responsible for reporting your PrepSmart earnings. The designed creator experience provides the records you'll need — monthly earnings reports, a year-end tax form where required, and a full payment history. Keep your own records and consult a tax professional about your specific obligations.

The Short Version

  • Your fans pay you, not a middleman app — and you keep the majority of every subscription.
  • You set your price (most choose around $6.99/mo); earnings examples here are illustrative, never guaranteed.
  • Revenue comes from direct subscriptions to your page; the first 3 recipes are free, the full catalog is unlocked by subscribing.
  • Two levers move your number: how often you post and link, and how prominently you promote your link — and you don't pull them alone.
  • Subscriber stacking means fans can support every creator they love, and you earn from your own subscribers.
  • Your forecast is a floor, not a ceiling — an estimate that updates with your real data.
